Default LIVE IN THE CLASSIC CITY 2

Quote:
Following the release of their acclaimed 11th studio album Dirty Side Down (career high Billboard chart debut), Widespread Panic and ATO Records will release the two-disc/three-vinyl set Live In The Classic City II on September 28th. 2010 marks the ten-year anniversary of this monumental three-night run that took place on April 1-3, 2000 at the Classic Center Theater in Athens, Georgia.

These recordings are also significant because they mark the first time Widespread Panic asked their fans, who are regularly permitted to record and circulate live performances, to refrain from recording these particular shows. Live In The Classic City II will mark the first time that these performances have been made available, and even heard if you weren’t there.

Live In The Classic City II includes special guests Mike Mills (R.E.M.), percussionist Arvin Scott, producer John Keane, guitarist Eric Carter and vocalist Daniel Hutchens (Blood Kin) and vocalist Anne Richmond Boston (Swimming Pool Q’s). Chosen from the same set of dates, Live In The Classic City I was released in 2002 and went on to sell over 100,000 copies.

The most heartily anticipated sequel since Basic Instinct 2. I suppose this is the next Archives release then... or is the Archives a thing of the past now? Porch Songs too? Horace too busy making podcasts?

I believe it is an "archive release." BTW, the current podcast is a unique one. I had no idea they played the Morton that night.

I don't think this is an archive release, not in the same sense as the archive release series. It's a commercial live album release. I just wanted to split hairs with Jayne .

I also wanted to voice my DISLIKE of the podcasts. Godawful sound, truly truly awful. I downloaded all 5 of the archived ones and I'd rather listen to my AUD collection. I think I have a show from 91 recorded with a walkman in the bathroom that might sound a little worse.

The issue: the sound is GRAINY as hell. It is "turrible". Is this the nature of Podcasts? Frankly I don't see the point in podcasts anyways. Just setup a download link for mp3's for something like that. Podcast is too space age for me

I'd rather see them spending time on Porch Song releases. Rather than giving out terrible mp3's, maybe even give out a freebie now and then since I buy every one of their releases!!

Sorry for the rant. $0.02

I agree completely (and thanks for posting 'cola 99!).

Weird that the newest "traditional" panic live release (in the line of JackAssOLantern, the Myrtle disks with George, Classic City 1) has Mikey on guitar, while the last "Archive" release was the NYE show with Jimmy.

They may not be confused over at Brown Cat, but they're confusing me.

I was really enjoying the Porch Songs releases. They were cheap, and even though I didn't think they were all deserving shows, they were coming fast and furious enough that it didn't really matter. It can't represent much of an investment for the band to upload them and host them on their browser, so I can't see poor sales being an excuse, so what gives?

Also, but for the audience source of 5-1-99 Horace trotted out for his first podcast, the band still has yet to release a single anything from 98-99.

The Greta from LATCC2 is available over at wp.com and I must say it's fucking sick. Is the entire first set of night three this good? The list looks awesome. Maybe that'll be the backbone of the release? Not due to end of sept.

From jambands.com

Looks like they mixed and matched from nights 2 and 3. Again, this band has confused me. Probably buy it, I guess.
